In 2009 the capital of independent Republic of Uzbekistan Tashkent city will be 2200 years old. This is not simply anniversary date, but striking evidence of retention and revival of rich history. Tashkent made the large contribution to development of world civilization.
On November 2nd of 2007 on 34-th of session of the general conference of UNESCO, resolution about celebration of 2200-th anniversary of Tashkent, which will be held from 31st of August till 01st of September 2009, was adopted.
To Tashkent such epithets, as “the city of friendship”, “city of peace”, “city of bread” are inherent. In 2007 given determinations were supplemented by the new one - “capital of Islamic culture”. In the past years of independence of Uzbekistan the great significance was given to the revival of national values, to the retention of architectural monuments. Celebration of the 2200-th anniversary of Tashkent is major event not only for the country, but also for entire world.
As the President of Uzbekistan Mr. Islam Abduganievich Karimov has noted: “Of majestic Tashkent – the main gate of our native land, the main city of the country - rightfully can be proud the whole people of Uzbekistan.
